Richard Forrest Kelsey, Jr.

1939-2022

Richard Forrest Kelsey, Jr., of Collierville, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 83 on July 11, 2022, after an extended illness.

 Richard was born on May 10, 1939, in Fort Benning, Georgia, but lived the majority of his life in Collierville.  He was a talented athlete playing in all sports throughout his high school years. Football was his favorite sport, and he was selected as a High School All-American. After graduating from Collierville High, he attended Memphis State University.

 Richard became a licensed realtor in 1978 and also became a licensed broker during his career. He opened Kelsey Properties, LLC, on the Collierville Town Square, specializing in selling and buying land transactions, subdivision design and development, leasing and management of commercial properties, and listing and selling of residential real estate. He was a member of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors, serving as Director from 2005-2006; a member of the Tennessee Association of Realtors and a Director from 2001-2003; and a charter member of the Tennessee Chapter – Realtors Land Institute and the Land Education Foundation of the Realtors Land Institute. 

 He was a history enthusiast, serving on the Collierville Historic District Commission and the Collierville Magnolia Cemetery Association for many years.  He was an avid Memphis State fan and loved to spend time watching the Tigers play football and basketball! He was a member of Christ Church Memphis.

 Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Richard Forrest Kelsey, Sr., and Ella Dudney Kelsey; and daughter, Martha Kelsey Edwards. 

 He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pat Kelsey; children Donna Kelsey Faulkner, Katharine Kelsey Elliott (Chris); and Richard Forrest Kelsey, III, (Carmen); grandchildren Ashley Thompson, (Jim), Bo Faulkner, Sam Faulkner (Emily), Julien Faulkner, Kelsey Wright (Christopher), Savannah Fay (Brian), Alexandria Cawthon (Ryan), Richard Forrest Kelsey, IV, and Stonewall Kelsey (Monica), an extended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sister, Katharine Pearson, and nephew, Rand Pearson (Sapna).

 A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Magnolia Cemetery Chapel in Collierville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to www.churchhealth.org.
