Construction ongoing for new Greenway trail head

Post Date:12/20/2019 2:30 PM

Last month, construction work began on a new greenway trail head that will be located at Wolf River and Farmington Blvd. The project will extend the Germantown Greenway an additional mile and a half, while adding a new trail head with additional parking at the intersection of Wolf River and Farmington.

In 2016, Germantown applied for and received federal and state funding through the Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization to design and construct two segments of the Germantown Greenway.

The first segment is a trail connection from Neshoba Park to the trail head located on Wolf River by the Stern Cardiovascular Center, which is approximately 0.4 miles in length. The second segment is a trail connection from the bridge at Cameron Brown Park to a new trail head located at the intersection at Wolf River and Farmington, which is approximately 0.75 miles in length. The city will be reimbursed 80 percent of all project expenditures.

Last October, the Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a Construction Contract with Rose Construction, Inc. for the Germantown Greenway project in the amount of $2,409,166.93.

Work on the project began this week with the center line of the trail being marked and some clearing and grubbing has begun.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2020.
