Collierville named America’s Best Main Street | Collierville Independent

Parade magazine announced that Collierville is the winner of “America’s Best Main Street.” This weekend, Collierville, the most charming downtown in the United States, is on the front page of Parade to be viewed by 33 million readers.

In the March 22 edition of Parade magazine, a regular insert in Sunday newspapers across the nation, readers were asked, “Tell

us about your town… and it could be featured in an upcoming Parade cover story about the country’s most charming

downtowns.”

Out of thousands of entries, Collierville was chosen as a finalist among 15 other towns including Georgetown, Texas, Corinth, Miss., Flagstaff, Ariz., Siloam Springs, Ark. and Montpelier, Vt. The bracket-style voting occurred online at parade.com/mainstreet, where participants were encouraged to vote for their favorite town and share with family and friends via social media. With the fear of daily elimination from the race, voting started with a frenzy on June

29th where Collierville was pinned against Greenville, N.C.

The poll remained close, yet set the precedent as the Town continued to pass by other great competitors including DeLand, Fla. and Ellicott City, Md. When the final day of voting arrived on July 2, only two towns remained: McMinneville, Ore. and Collierville.

The nation waited weeks to discover that Collierville was the “most charming downtown,” but Collierville already knew that answer. From the start, the community support surrounding this contest was almost tangible, from the social media posts, homemade flyers, to word of mouth. The dedication and pride of the Town was everywhere.

“It was incredible to see the community rally to push Collierville toward first place,” commented Mayor Joyner. “Not only are we ‘America’s Best

Main Street,’ but we also look forward to sharing our wonderful community with the rest of America through Parade magazine. Thank you to every person who cast a vote in this contest!”

While Collierville has proven to be “America’s Best Main Street,” the Town also showed it is one of the greatest communities in the country. Collierville would have never progressed in the competition without the community support.
