Town officials have been in contact with the National Weather Service concerning the weather forecast for Nov. 29.

The forecasts calls for rain, high winds and possible tornado activity in North Mississippi.

The estimated window of time for the wind and rain in Collierville is between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

After taking into consideration the forecast of rain and possible strong winds later this evening, the Town Administrator recommended postponing the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony scheduled for tonight until Dec. 1.

“In an effort to conduct the Tree Lighting ceremony in the best possible circumstances and placing a priority on public safety we are rescheduling the event,” said Town Administrator James Lewellen.

The forecast for Dec. 1 is currently clear skies.

The rescheduled program will start at 5:30 pm with hot chocolate being served by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Santa will arrive at approximately 7:10 pm and the tree lighting will take place immediately following Santa’s arrival.

“I wanted to make the call early today to allow people wanting to attend the Tree Lighting ample time to adjust their schedules and makes plans to attend on Thursday.” said Lewellen.
