The initial shock came Tuesday afternoon of a shooting at a Collierville clinic.

As the hours pass, many in the community are trying to wrap their minds about the shooting that took the life of Dr. Benjamin Mauck.

The Collierville Police Department took a suspect into custody after an incident in an exam room of the Campbell Clinic located at 1458 W Poplar Avenue Suite 100. Larry Perkins, 29-year-old, has been charged with the first-degree murder of Mauck who was shot and killed inside of an exam room at a Campbell Clinic in Collierville,

Mauck, who has been featured in local publications, wanted to be a doctor involved in sports medicine since he was a teenager. According to the Campbell Clinic, he would go on to graduate from Lambuth University in Jackson, and then the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Mauck did his residency at the UT-Campbell Clinic.

Mauck’s duties as an orthopedic surgeon at the Campbell Clinic were working on hand, wrist and elbow surgeries.

He was fatally shot inside a clinic Tuesday and the suspect was arrested minutes later. Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said Dr. Benjamin Mauck was shot and killed by a patient in the Campbell Clinic, “It’s bad, it’s horrific, it’s terrible and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
