Halloween events abound in Collierville

Fall is in full swing and at the end of this month costume clad children will be celebrating Halloween by running door to door in search of treats.

This year, Oct. 31 falls on a Sunday.

The Town of Collierville does not designate a date or time for Halloween or trick-or-treating.

Some neighborhoods reschedule Halloween festivities so residents should verify their trick-or-treating date with their neighborhood associations.

A simple way to communicate that candy is being passed out is by turning house porch lights on. Residents that are not participating in Trick-or-Treating can leave their porch lights off.

Looking for some other, spooky alternatives besides the traditional trick-or-treating on Halloween? Here are a few events:

  • Scare on the Square is back after a two year hiatus and Junior Auxiliary of Collierville is introducing some new treats for attendees this year.  In addition to Square merchants handing out candy, there will be food trucks, games and crafts, trunk or treating,  and much more. Friends of Collierville Animal Services will also be present with some of their adoptable dogs and cats. Scare on the Square will take place on Town Square on Friday, Oct. 22 4-7 p.m.
  • There will also be a  Fall Festival at Halle Park that will take place Thursday, Oct. 14 from 4-6 p.m. Families and individuals of all ages are invited to participate in games, crafts, and trick-or-treating at the Halle Lake StoryWalk. Attendees are encouraged to park at the Library and walk to the event at the lake.
  • Area churches also have Halloween festivities and truck-or-treating available for their members and guests to enjoy.
  • Muddy Paws Pet Emporium at 942 W. Poplar Ave. will host a trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 30 that will feature an animal psychic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Woof River Animal Rescue will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m. with adoptable dogs. Face painting and trunk-or-treating will be held from 2-5 p.m. There is also a costume contest for pets and owners. For more information, call 901.316.8749.
