Animal Services celebrates Thanksgiving with pet food bank | Collierville Independent

The staff and volunteers at Collierville’s Animal Services Department have their own way of celebrating Thanksgiving.

Every year at this time, they open up their pet food bank to low income families who have fallen on hard times.

Many of these pet owners have lost their jobs, had their pay checks cut in half and have taken in other homeless family members and their pets.

“Some pets are surrendered to us simply because their owners can’t afford to feed them,” said Wingfield. “Our mission is to keep the families together and help them keep their pets in their own home.”

Animal Services Director Nina Wingfield said that the shelter receives many generous donations of pet food for the food bank.

The food bank is actually available year round, but the staff and volunteers like to make a special effort to share their donations during the holiday season.

Hay bedding and dog houses are also available to qualified pet owners.
