John Raimann Thornbury, age 84, of Collierville, Tennessee, formerly of Jasper, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021.
John was born in Chicago, Illinois, January 24, 1937, to John (Jack) and Elizabeth (Raimann) Thornbury. His parents preceded him in death. John married Phyllis Armstrong on April 4, 1959, in Ireland, Indiana.
He was a graduate of Jasper High School, served in the Indiana National Guard, attended Hanover College, and received a diploma from Indiana Lacquer College. In 1968, John moved his family to Germantown, Tennessee, and to Fort Smith, Arkansas, in 1979. When he retired from Lilly Industrial Coatings in 2002, John and Phyllis relocated to Collierville, Tennessee.
John was a master finishing-application engineer. After his retirement, John enjoyed building furniture for his family, especially wooden picnic tables for the grandchildren. John and Phyllis traveled to all parts of the country and Europe, but his favorite place was at home with his family, close friends, Wilbur and Joyce Chasteen, and dog, Bailey gathered near, especially at Christmas. John was an active member of Grace Celebration Lutheran Church in Cordova, Tennessee.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 62 years, and four sons, Michael (Dayna) Thornbury, Tennessee, Steven (Marti) Thornbury, Indiana, Gregory (Amy) Thornbury, Tennessee, Timothy (Laura) Thornbury, Mississippi; one brother, William (Karen) Thornbury, Florida; six grandsons, Andrew (Katherine) Thornbury, Matthew (Leslie) Thornbury, Dillon (Miki) Thornbury, Rayce Thornbury, Brady Thornbury, Mitchell Thornbury; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Grace Celebration Lutheran Church on January 29, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace Celebration Lutheran Church at 8601 Trinity Rd, Cordova, Tennessee 38018.
