Collierville hosts Dragon Fire tourney

The Collierville High Lady Dragons hosted the 19th annual Dragon Fire Invitational last week.

Sixteen teams from Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee competed, including local schools like East High, Melrose, St. Benedict, Cordova and eventual tournament champion White Station.

The Lady Dragons started the tournament on Dec. 27 with a big 84-33 win over Jackson Christian. The next day they fell 49-35 to Memphis Business Academy. That same day they beat Pace Academy out of Atlanta, Ga. 55-42.

Collierville lost 64-57 in overtime on Dec. 29 to Central Arkansas Christian for the right to take fifth place in the tournament.

Despite the two losses, sophomore point guard Mallory Taylor (PICTURED) was named an All-Tournament Player. Taylor is averaging 11.5 points a game this season, along with 3 assists and 2.5 steals.

The Lady Dragons are now 10-5 on the season and scheduled to host Byhalia this Friday at 6 p.m. Collierville will play a rivalry game at Houston on Jan. 17.
