Several Collierville High School students were recently suspended for underage drinking at a homecoming function over the weekend.
Collierville Schools Chief of Staff Dr. Russell Dyer confirmed Wednesday morning that a couple dozen students were disciplined.
“I can confirm that a number of CHS students did show evidence of drinking at a school sponsored event this past weekend,” he wrote in an email. “Those students have been disciplined per our board policy and Student Code of Conduct and Discipline. We expect our students and all associated with our school system to be people of scholarship, integrity, and service.”
The Collierville Schools Student Handbook states that, “evidence of drinking or possession of alcoholic beverages in school or at a school sponsored activity” will result in out of-school suspension or expulsion for 11-180 days.
“The school system will have no further comment and we respect the privacy of our students as maintained by the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act,” Dyer wrote.
