Charles R. Baker 1935 – 2019

Charles R. Baker, 84, died December 21, 2019, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. 

He was born April 24, 1935 in Oklahoma City, to the late Ernest and Maudie Baker. He was predeceased by a sister, Melba Baker Conaway, and a brother, Harold F. Baker. 

He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his education at the University of Chicago from which he received a Master of Business Administration degree. 

He was employed by International Business Machines Corporation and served as a Commissioned Officer during the Korean conflict. He was subsequently employed by Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and retired as Executive Vice President following a career of forty two years. 

He was a member of Germantown Baptist Church for over forty years. During this time, he served on several committees, was a deacon, and taught Sunday School. He subsequently joined Covenant Baptist Church in Collierville. 

Mr. Baker is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan; his son and his wife, Bryan and Cynthia of Seattle, and one granddaughter, Stephanie of Austin, TX. He also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

Private graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN, 38119. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, Jews for Jesus or Ouachita Baptist University.
