Burger chain withdraws application

By Graham Sweeney

The popular Texas based fast food chain Whataburger has announced that it will withdraw its application for a site at 1088 W. Poplar Ave. in Collierville.

Due to heavy traffic in the area, the burger chain was not granted the desired access points. The location was to be west of Chick-Fil-A.

In July 2021, Whataburger announced it would open five restaurants across the Mid-South within the next two years.

Town officials noted that there are other properties available for the restaurant to consider.

In December, it was announced that Collierville would be home to Shelby County’s fifth Chipotle Mexican Grill if the town approves a plan for the restaurant at 1088 W. Poplar Ave.

The town’s Design Review Commission discussed a preliminary site plan for the restaurant during its regularly scheduled Dec. 9 meeting.

The Planning Commission has already approved a final subdivision plat near the northeast corner of Poplar View Parkway and W. Poplar Ave.

Chipotle will occupy 2,325 square feet.

Jersey Mike’s Subs will occupy 1,400 square feet within the same structure.

Both restaurants will share 40 parking spaces.
