Board approves permit for farm | Collierville Independent

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved a conditional use permit for Menagerie Farm. A developer interested in building upscale homes nearby recently requested more guidelines for the farm, which offers educational field trips, farm birthday and Sunday school parties and summer day camp programs. Earlier this month, the town’s Planning Commission slightly tweaked the 11 requirements that make up the permit. A handful of residents spoke in favor of the farm during the meeting. In other news: The town has agreed to buy around six acres of property on Shelby Drive for a future water plant. The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday night to pay $130,746 for land between Sycamore Road and Quinn Road. The land will be the future site of the town’s sixth water plant, which will serve the southeast and south central areas of Collierville. The plant will not be constructed for between 10 and 15 years. The majority of the property is owned by the Cartwright Farms Partnership and is currently a tree farm. The town has considered buying other properties along the corridor. However, much of the land was deemed too expensive. The town will close on the deal in December. The property is long and narrow. So, two wells can be located on the property. Also, because of its shape and the presence of a 35-foot MLGW power line easement, the property would be difficult to develop, thus making it more affordable.
