More Collierville residents took home paychecks in November, leading to a slight drop in statewide unemployment.
The town’s unemployment rate remained the second lowest in the county and was among the lowest in the state in November.
The town’s rate of 2.6 percent was reported last week by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
At 2.4 percent, only Germantown posted a lower unemployment rate within Shelby County.
Bartlett and Memphis had rates of 2.8 and 4 percent, respectively.
As a state, Tennessee came in two-tenths of a point lower than the national rate of 3.5 percent.
Shelby County’s rate of 3.7 percent was up slightly from October.
Collierville’s work force was reported to be 26,653 last month, with roughly 690 residents unemployed.
At 2.1 percent, Franklin had the lowest jobless rate in the state, with Mount Juliet coming in second at 2.2 percent.
Statewide data shows a one-tenth point decrease in unemployment when compared to the previous month, setting the new rate at 3.3 percent.
The current seasonally adjusted rate is close to the historically low unemployment rate Tennessee marked earlier this year. In February, the rate dropped to an all-time low of 3.2 percent and remained there for three consecutive months.
In a year-to-year comparison, Tennessee’s statewide unemployment rate mirrors the rate from November 2018.
“We’ve had a consistently low unemployment rate for nearly two years, and that points to a strong and healthy economy here in Tennessee,” said TDLWD Commissioner Jeff McCord. “While it’s great more people are going to work each day, for those who are not, we have many services that can help them find meaningful employment.”
