Last week, while much of the Mid-South was blanketed with nearly a foot of snow and ice, Collierville Public Works, Police and Fire departments worked around the clock to ensure the safety of the town’s motorists.
The Collierville Police Department reported 23 crashes and 183 drivers in need of assistance between Feb. 12-19.
Between Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, the Public Works Department responded to a “winter weather event that consisted of approximately 12 inches of snow and ice.”
“During the event,” said John Fox, Public Works manager for the town, “crews put out over 1,000 gallons of salt brine ahead of the storm and over 150 tons of salt and sand during the storm.”
He noted that Public Works crews worked a total of 639 hours through the week between 10 personnel.
“We utilized three salt spreaders, two snowplows, a rubber tire loader and track skid steer loader during our response to the storm,” he added. “Through the storm, crews focused primarily on main streets and connector streets and cleared snow and ice from the town’s Fire Stations and Police Station.”
Following the storm, crews assisted with clearing the Collierville School’s bus lot, School Administrative Building, Library, Town Hall, Animal Shelter, Fire Administration Building, Town Square and several other public buildings.
