Town will promote two to keep up with future recycling demands | Collierville Independent

In an effort to prepare for the additional demand on the town’s Public Services Department once it is charged with performing recycling pick up duties for Collierville residents, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider creating two new positions within the department Monday night.

On June 30, the town’s Public Services Sanitation Division will begin performing recycling duties for Collierville residents.

“In order for the division to take on the additional workload,” said Bill Kilp, director of Public Services, “it will be necessary to add two equipment operator senior positions for automated recycle truck operation.”

Kilp said the department plans to fill the two positions through an internal promotion process.

Equipment operator seniors must possess a Class A commercial license in order to drive the automated 37-cubic-yard recycling trucks. Last December, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen rejected four proposals submitted by private companies to perform recycling duties for the town.

Instead, town officials decided the work would be done by Collierville’s Public Services Department. Board members also voted to buy two new automated trucks to collect recycling materials from 96-gallon carts.
