Town celebrates Arbor Day

Collierville honored Arbor Day on Friday by planting a 4-foot caliper Redbud Tree near the entrance of the boardwalk in the Peterson Lake Nature Center.Shawn Posey, a Regional Urban Forester with the Tennessee Division of the U.S. Department of Forestry, presented Collierville Public Works Manager John Fox with a banner designating Collierville as a “Tree City USA” as appointed by the Arbor Day Foundation.

This was the 15th year that Collierville has received the designation.smaller.

It was a windy day, but the small group of attendees banded together to hold up the banner and take the time to acknowledge the Arbor Day Foundation’s mission and the Town of Collierville’s agreement to that mission by continuing the tradition of  planting a tree every year at this time. 

As Mayor Stan Joyner said in his proclamation of the day, “Arbor Day is a unique celebration, focusing not on the past, but on the future, and by planting trees, we affirm our faith in the future.”
