Saunders named Briarcrest athletic director

Briarcrest Christian School announced this week the appointment of Matt Saunders to the position of High School Athletic Director.

Saunders received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from The University of Memphis and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Mississippi. He has coached football at the collegiate and high school levels for 13 years. Mr. Saunders began his teaching and coaching career at Briarcrest Christian School in 2000.  In 2006, he left Briarcrest and joined the coaching staff at The University of Mississippi as a graduate assistant. Matt has been an integral part of the coaching staffs which amassed four state championships at the high school level and he assisted in landing a top 10 recruiting class while serving on the football coaching staff at The University of Mississippi. 

From 2007 to 2013, he was the offensive coordinator and taught at Jackson Prep High School in Jackson, Miss. and Head Coach at Munford High School.

In 2013, he joined RGT Management Company as Director of Real Estate and Development and then he was promoted to Vice President of Business Operations.  In his role at RGT Management, he was responsible for the growth strategy, daily operations and performance of twelve Taco Bells on the Florida Gulf Coast. In March 2022, he joined Safelite Group as a Real Estate Transaction Manager.   

“Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this position,” said Caron Swatley, BCS President. “We are pleased to have him rejoin our staff at Briarcrest. We are excited about his leadership in continuing to enhance what is already a strong athletic program at Briarcrest.”

Saunders is a graduate of Briarcrest Christian School (Class of 1998) and resides in Eads, with his wife Katie, and their two young sons, Tressel (Briarcrest Class of 2035) and Courtland (Briarcrest Class of 2037).

They attend Hope Church where Matt serves as an Elder and Chair of the Administration Committee.
