168 animals found

in Fayette house

Officials with the Memphis and Shelby County Humane Society and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office confiscated 168 animals on Sept. 21 from a house belonging to William J. Parr Jr. on Cedar Creek Way in Moscow.

Among the animals found inside the house were 69 dogs, 29 cats, and numerous rabbits, ferrets and birds.

No charges have been filed yet.

Chaney closed

for improvements

Chaney Road at Highway 72 will be closed from Sept. 25 through Dec. 25 as part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Highway 72 Project.

A new water main will be installed and intersection improvements will be made.

The Commerce Parkway and Quinn Road intersections will remain open.

Jobless rate

slightly up

Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced last week that Tennessee’s unemployment rate for August increased to 8.5 percent, up from the July revised rate of 8.4 percent.

The national unemployment rate for August 2012 was 8.1 percent, 0.2 percentage point lower than the July rate.

This is the fourth consecutive month Tennessee’s unemployment rate has increased

Total non-farm employment decreased 5,100 jobs from July to August. There were declines in local government, durable goods manufacturing and trade/transportation/utilities

Over the year, non-farm employment increased 24,600 jobs, with increases in manufacturing, healthcare/social assistance and government.
