HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION – June 6, 2014

Notice is hereby given that the Historic District Commission (HDC) will conduct a called non-voting mobile workshop on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:30am. The workshop will occur on the grounds of 198 Natchez Street and those in attendance will be invited to walk the subject property for HDC14-13 (Stratton Heights Bed and Breakfast) with the HDC, applicant, and staff.

HDC14-13, which will be considered at a future voting meeting of the HDC, is a request to amend the Certificate of Appropriateness for demolition of one (1) or more accessory structures and exterior alterations (addition, parking, fences/walls) for a bed and breakfast and event venue to be located on Lot 1 of the Stratton Heights Subdivision, located north of Natchez Street, south of Poplar Avenue, and west of Mt. Pleasant Road.

Three specific questions will be discussed by the HDC and staff at the on-site work session:

1. Will the new addition to the building complement, and not detract from, the character-defining features of the historic residence and its accessory structures (i.e. function, design, size, location, avoiding an exact replication of the original style, materials and features)?

2. How can required parking spaces and new fences/walls be designed in such a way to avoid negatively impact the historic resources at 198 Natchez Street, existing trees, and the overall District?

3. Should any existing accessory structures be removed (demolished or relocated) at 198 Natchez Street and why?
