Collierville High School Principal Russell Dyer announced Thursday that he will resign from his current position in order to accept a position working with Superintendent John Aitken and the town’s new municipal school district. Dyer’s last official day as principal was Feb. 14.
Former Vice Principal Beth Robbins will serve as interim principal for the remainder of the school year.
“I have full confidence in her skills and abilities,” Dyer wrote Thursday, “and I know that she takes our student’s best interest at heart when making decisions.”
Calling his decision “bittersweet,” Dyer said he is excited about the opportunity to “assist the new system in its infancy stage.”
“I plan to continue to be present at high school events and to support all of our schools, students and staff in various ways,” he wrote. “Go Dragons!”
Dyer, who began teaching for Shelby County Schools in 1996 at Collierville Middle School, was named CHS principal in 2012.
He previously served as principal of Bon Lin Middle School.
In related news, Anita Hays has been hired as the Chief Financial Officer for the Collierville district. She worked for six years with Shelby County Schools as the Director of Finance and later as the Planning and Analysis Manager for the Nutrition Services Division.
“I am pleased to have Anita as the new CFO,” Aitken said. “Her experience at Shelby County Schools will be a great asset as we take on the task of creating a new school district.”
