Dragons run away with it | Collierville Independent

The Collierville football team kicked off their 2013 season on the right foot, or feet, Friday night on the road against Bolton.

The Dragons crushed the Wildcats 49-17, amassing 288 rushing yards in the process.

Collierville’s running tandem of Drew Van De Vuurst, Mitch Owens and Edmond Pomphrett punished the Bolton defenders and scored a combined five touchdowns.

The Dragon’s passing game dazzled too, as 6-foot-5-inch quarterback Alex Hicks threw for 244 yards.

In fact, Hicks scored the first touchdown of the game with a 58-yard pass to Austin Hall.

“Our receiving core is talented and senior heavy,” said Dragon Head Coach Ron O’Neill.

Collierville scored again on another Hicks pass to Van De Vuurst.

Bolton finally got on the scoreboard with a 39-foot field goal.

However, the Wildcats would not score again until the fourth quarter.

With a 21-3 halftime lead, the Dragons picked up where they left off in the second half, with Owens and Hall both rushed for touchdowns. Owens, a senior, finished the game with 55 yards. Hall finished with 64 reception yards.

Collierville will host Arlington this Friday for the first home game of the season. The Tigers are coming off of a close 24-19 win against Kirby.
