Development to include 71-foot clock tower | Collierville Independent

Germantown will be getting a new landmark in the near future.

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen “enthusiastically” approved an amendment to the site plan for the Thornwood development to allow the construction of a 71-foot clock tower.

The development is located on the northeast corner of Germantown and Neshoba roads and was approved last April. The clock tower was not part of the original plan.

The tower will be located in the roundabout of the development at the intersection of Owens Manor Drive and Kings College Drive.

Thornwood is part of the Germantown Vision 2020 goal for redevelopment in the heart of Germantown and includes mixed use developments. The development will include luxury apartments and restaurants.

A large fountain was initially proposed for the roundabout. The clock tower will take its place.

Board members authorized the mayor to enter into a $184,000 professional services agreement with Allen & Hoshall to provide engineering services for the Western Gateway Sanitary Sewer Basin Study.

The Western Gateway rezoning was approved last October and creates the potential for a “more dense development pattern” within the 56 acres around the Kirby and Poplar Ave. intersection.

The sewer lines leaving the rezoned area go through residential neighborhoods. So, Allen & Hoshall will study the east and west basins leading from the Western Gateway for potential flow issues.
