Cox Park fields to be resurfaced with synthetic turf

The town is preparing to discuss converting five soccer fields at HW Cox Park from grass to synthetic turf.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will discuss the $132,000 design and engineering services on Monday night.
The field renovation contract is with Athletic Services Plus, which worked on the town’s first two synthetic surface fields at WC Johnson Park and had renovated athletic fields for universities, colleges, high schools and municipalities.
Only three of the fields will be renovated at this time, with the other two to be done at a later date.
The design phase of the project will cost $72,600, with construction coming in at $59,400.
Timothy Cowan, president of Athletic Surfaces Plus, said the the project should take around 18-to-20 weeks to complete.
HW Cox Park is located on 67 acres at 440 W. Powell Road.
