Collierville Library hosting scavenger hunt

Collierville residents who sign up for the Burch Library’s Shine a Light on Collierville Scavenger Hunt will be given two “missions.”

The first is to locate 12 landmarks within Town by way of clues provided on the library’s READsquared app.

Participants in the hunt will upload pictures of their finds to the app and those who find all of the landmarks will be entered into a random drawing.

“We were originally planning this program for National Library Week in April,” said Youth Services Librarian Julia Trumpy. “We also wanted to celebrate Collierville’s 150th birthday with the event, so we came up with the idea of a citywide scavenger hunt with the landmarks of the Town serving as the clues.”

Then the pandemic happened, and the event was cancelled.

But September happens to be Library Card Sign-Up Month, so Trumpy and Head of Circulation Gail Tucci revived the hunt and paired it with the second “mission” – sign up for a new card, renew an old card or simply show your card to library staff.

The new “partnering” still serves the original purposes of promoting the library and celebrating the Town, as well as giving library patrons and Collierville residents a fun together-but-apart thing to do outside!

The event is open to all ages, and participants are welcome to play as a group or as an individual. Interested scavengers can sign up at colliervillelibrary.readsquared.com.

The library staff hopes everyone will have fun with the hunt, and wishes them the best of luck in finding the clues! The Shine a Light on Collierville Scavenger Hunt runs through Sept. 30.
