• Celebrating 21 seasons of music education introducing children ages eight and under to a wide variety of musical instruments and styles, Germantown Performing Arts Center hosts Bluegrass Jam at the Peanut Butter & Jam series on March 21 at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Get to the roots of American music with this PBJ session by exploring bluegrass, country and even some gospel tunes with some of Memphis finest musicians. Children will have an opportunity to strum a banjo, pluck an upright bass or dance a jig to a fiddle.

• Registration for the Collierville Parks and Recreation Department’s spring tennis clinic and league is open. Youth clinics are offered for K-8th grade Monday or Thursdays, March 23-May 7. Adult clinics are available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Adult Recreational Tennis League starts March 23 and lasts for 10 weeks.

• St. Benedict High School will stage The Wedding Singer from March 26-29, Thursday-Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., 8250 Varnavas Dr.
The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer’s sparkling new score does for the ’80s what Hairspray did for the ’60s. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in 20 years.
The SBA Celebration Troupe is proud to present this new classic with original pop tunes so catchy you may not be able to get them out of your head for days.
The production will be very student driven with choreography, assistant directing, stage managing, designing, multimedia projection, instrumentalist and, of course, performance duties all handled by 9th through 12th grade Eagles.

• The Collierville High School Environmental Club will host an Electronics Recycling Drive in the school parking lot from 1-5 p.m. on March 28.
The items that you can bring include: computers, keyboards, monitors, computer mouse, printers, fax machines,televisions, DVD players, VCRs, cellphones, tablets, boom boxes, portable, music players, video game consoles, digital converter boxes and cable/satellite receivers.

• March 28 has been set for open auditions for adults and teenagers for The Collierville Arts Council production of Hairspray.
Vocal and dance auditions will begin at 9 a.m. at the Harrell Theatre, 440 W. Powell Road in Collierville. Call backs, by invitation only, will be held at 2 p.m. on March 29.
Hairspray, the popular movie and Broadway musical show, will be performed live on stage at the Harrell from July 9-19. The production will be directed by Keith Salter, with Sherry Fuller as music director and choreography by Christi Hall.
With no precast roles, those coming to auditions should prepare a song from the show and be dressed to dance. There are no roles for children under the age of 14 in the production.
Rehearsals will begin for Hairspray in mid-May, with weekday call times from 6-10 p.m. with varying times on weekends.
All individuals auditioning should prepare a song from the show, which fits within their personal vocal range. An accompanist will be available with the piano score for all songs. A current headshot, resume and completed audition form must be brought to the audition.

The upcoming show for the Harrell Theatre is The Wizard of Oz. The show dates are April 17-27 and the Production Team includes Director Cecelia Wingate, Choreographer Christi Hall, Music Director/Production Manager Joshua Quinn, Stage Manager Cyndie Trice and Lauren Suddoth is Assistant to the Director.
The Collierville Arts Council is a 501c3 not for profit organization that is the designated service provider for the Town of Collierville for cultural/creative arts productions.

• The YMCA at Schilling Farms will host an Easter Eggstravaganza on April 4. Children will collect floating plastic eggs in the indoor pool. The ages and times are: ages 3-5 at 1:30 p.m. with a parent/guardian in the water with the child; ages 6-7 at 1:45 p.m.; ages 8-9 at 2 p.m.; and ages 10-14 at 2:15 p.m. Participants should bring a basket and floation device. • Hit the links this spring and support more than 1,000 people with disabilities through Shelby Residential and Vocational Services (SRVS).
Register for the Wesberry Golf Classic on April 20 at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville. The four-person scramble includes lunch, an awards reception, putting and flight contests, door prizes and giveaways.

The classic honors Fred Wesberry, a long-time supporter of SRVS who helped support individuals at SRVS through his care in dentistry.
• A one page survey designed to obtain feedback from the community regarding funding for a proposed new Collierville High School will be reaching area mailboxes soon.
The survey is being conducted because the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen are committed to being good stewards of taxpayer funds and in this case, they want feedback from the community on the issue before moving forward.
Building a new high school will require the issuance of bonds to pay for the land and for construction of the facility. A property tax increase will be necessary to pay the debt service on those bonds.
Beginning last week, Collierville residents started to receive the one-page survey, which contains some brief background information and a postage paid return card. The postage paid return card will include a question for citizens to answer. Residents are urged to return the completed surveys by March 27.
After the survey cards have been returned, the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen plan to hold a public work session to tabulate the results. That date has not been set.
