Following a series of concerns from residents, the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen have voted to conduct a traffic study near a proposed college satellite campus.
Aldermen unanimously approved Monday night entering into a contract with Kimberly-Horn and Associates Inc. to study the traffic near a proposed University of Memphis Collierville campus. The study would examine the current flow of traffic at the intersections of Popular and Peterson Lake and College and Walnut Streets and analyze what the impact would be of the proposed college in the former Collierville Middle School.
The study also would look at what the benefits would be of adding an entrance into the site from Poplar and Peterson Lake. The site already has an entrance onto Walnut and College.
The planning commission approved Aug. 1 a site plan for the development, which will be located on 9.29 acres between West Poplar and College streets. Three structures on the site would be razed to make room for a 27,000-square-foot college. The campus will include 277 parking spaces and have a maximum capacity of 675 students.
The study is expected to cost $11,430 and tax four to six weeks to complete.
