Replicas of Christopher Columbus’ Nina and Pinta ships docked at the Beale Street Landing last week and will be on display through Oct. 6.
Built completely by hand without the use of power tools and covered in water resistant black pine tar, the ships are considered the “most historically correct” Columbus replicas ever.
Both ships are touring together as an enhanced “sailing museum” to educate the public on the caravel, a Portuguese ship used by many fifteenth century explorers.
The ships, which tour the world 11 months of the year, run on auxiliary power.
Teachers or organizations interested in scheduling a 30-minute guided tour with a crew member should call (787) 672-2152.
