Update on Collierville’s firefighter team in New Mexico

Collierville Fire & Rescue

The Region 9 Swiftwater Team, comprised of 3 members of Collierville Fire & Rescue and 3 members of Millington Fire Department, remains in New Mexico to assist with flooding.

This team deployed through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact between New Mexico and Tennessee.  They remain in the Ruidoso area in South East New Mexico, which had previously experienced terrible wildfires, decimating much of the buildings and vegetation.  The team is being hosted by the Helping Americas Heroes camp, which is an old prison converted to a camp for wounded veterans.  The team has already conducted numerous water rescues and evacuations of mobile home neighborhoods.  They have been working alongside a couple other swiftwater teams and the National Guard.

The local residents and responders have been very welcoming to our team.  New Mexico has asked our team to stay another week as they have more concerns for flash flooding, including the possible effects of Hurricane Beryl.  We are proud of our personnel helping those people in New Mexico that have been hit so hard by the wildfires and floods.
