Town’s fire department receives multiple donations

The Collierville Fire Department has received three large donations from two local families and Kroger.
Fire Chief Buddy Billings and the town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen accepted the donations on Monday night during the regularly scheduled semimonthly meeting.
Jim and Bita Webb donated $50 gift cards to each of the town’s 88 employees, which totals $4,400.
“Please make sure each of your firefighters, including yourself, receives one of the gift cards,” Webb told Billings.
She thanked the department for its “kindness, compassion, understanding and for laying down their lives for someone else’s life.”
“We we pray you all continue to stay safe, especially since we are still dealing with the COVID-19 virus and because we are going into the flu season,” she added.
Kroger’s Delta Division also donated 88 gift cards in the amount of $50 each.
Melinda Cox Hall made a $1,685 donation to the department in the form of 500 “fire department challenge coins.”
The coins are small medallions that are given to firefighters to “prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale.”
The coins are distributed by Chief Billings at his discretion.
