Town to get ‘mini’ ambulance with medical response grant | Collierville Independent

Collierville’s public safety efforts will get a big boost this year from a miniature source.

The town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen will vote to approve the donation of a MedStat Mini-Ambulance Monday night during their regularly scheduled meeting.

The all-terrain vehicle, along with an 8-by-20-foot cargo trailer, is valued at $60,491 and will be obtained through a 2010 Metropolitan Medical Response System grant.

The tiny ambulances are already being used in Bartlett, Germantown and Memphis.

Collierville Fire Chief Jerry Crawford said the vehicle will be used at events like Fair on the Square and the town’s Fourth of July Celebration, for recreational support on the Greenbelt trails and park complexes, and to enhance EMS capabilities during atypical situations or mass casualty incidents where victims cannot be reached with a full-size ambulance.

The acquisition of the Med-Stat Mini-Ambulance is part of a master plan to strategically place the vehicles throughout the Memphis/Shelby County area for a collaborative response to medical disasters.
