Town officials meet at a distance

Discussion was minimal and physical distancing was generous on Monday night as Collierville’s leaders held a quorum in Town Hall to keep local government operational.

Board members strategically spaced themselves for less than 15 minutes and joined Town Administrator James Lewellen and General Services Manager Derek Honeycutt to address a handful of matters during the town’s regularly scheduled semi-monthly meeting.

Town Attorney Nathan Bicks attended the meeting via video conference call.

Board members, who have been promoting the slogan ‘stand together by not standing together,’ unanimously passed four business items.

A consent item regarding the reduction of bank performance security from $480,000 to $174,000 for the Villages at Porter Farms assisted living center was removed from the agenda for future discussion. Among the business items passed:

• A budget amendment to appropriate $21,000 to fund an assessment project of the Eastbrook Greenbelt Trail and the banks of the Wolf River between Cox Park and Fire House No. 3. The project is part of an effort to alleviate erosion problems.

• An amendment was made in the amount of $25,350 to have four town-owned pieces of property added to the annual mowing services contract.

The properties include Town Hall, the library grounds, Tom Brooks Park and the Police Department complex.
