A longtime parking lot on Collierville’s Historic Town Square will soon be transformed into a retail and office building.
The Collierville Historic District Commission has approved a preliminary site plan for a two-story building at 140 Main Street that will be used for office and retail space.
Commissioners voted unanimously for the project Thursday night.
The building will be built on the same property as the future fine dining restaurant at 148 Main, which was originally the town’s post office.
The 13,485-square-foot building will match the scale of the Biblical Museum and will be located on the east side of North Main Street, south of Natchez Street, west of Mount Pleasant Road.
Property owner Thomas Scott filed the paperwork to construct the 32-foot building, which will feature three storefronts. He also owns the converted building at 148 North Main.
Along with the primary structure, concrete sidewalks, handicap ramps, curbs, gutters and a bump-out at the corner of Main and Natchez streets will be added.
The project will also result in a gain of eight parking spaces.
The new building will be setback around 10 feet farther than the adjacent fire station to the south and will be located approximately 16 feet from the Main Street right-of-way.
The town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen will likely vote on the site plan during their regularly scheduled on Sept. 12.
Commissioners also voted to eliminate the galvanized metal awning at 148 N. Main.
