Town grants Orgill tax break to expand

By Graham Sweeney

Orgill Inc. will expand its operations in Collierville and has been approved a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) by the town.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a resolution on January 23 to grant the business 15 years of limited property taxes.

Orgill headquarters is currently located in a 120,000 square-foot, four story office building in Collierville. The building houses 350 employees.

Orgill, which was founded in 1847 in Memphis, relocated to Collierville in 2018.

The proposed project will expand the company’s footprint in Collierville and include a 530,000 square-foot office and showroom on the 48-acre site. An estimated 65 new jobs will be created with a median annual salary of $65,000.

The PILOT program will have the “general effect of limiting the real and personal property taxes for the length of term at 25 percent of the current tax rate for Collierville, a benefit of approximately $381,582 annually,” according to John Duncan, the town’s director of Economic Development.

Orgill, Inc. is the world’s largest independent “hardlines distributor with annual sales of $3.6 billion.”
