Memphis will continue to mend traffic signals within Collierville.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding Monday night between the Town of Collierville and the City of Memphis for the repair of traffic signals within the town’s jurisdiction.
The town originally had a “hand shake agreement” with Memphis regarding signal repairs. Nothing was formalized in writing.
Jay Cravens, director of development for the town, said Memphis has requested that each municipality being serviced enter an agreement spelling out traffic signal maintenance and repairs.
The fee structure and order of priority is “essentially the same as what is currently in place” and there is no additional financial impact on the town’s budget.
“I hate to admit it,” Mayor Stan Joyner said, “but I remember when we just had one (traffic signal).”

There are 11 notable changes being made to the ordinance, most of which affect signage in relation to flags, sign illumination and allowed signage.
Flags in non-residential zoning districts will not require a sign permit, although they will still need to comply with the Sign Regulations.
Corrections/additions will be made to the appropriate sections of the sign regulations to clarify which signs can be internally illuminated.
Changes will be made to face colors to allow additional dual color film (appear as silver or gray during the day and white at night) on some sign types. Two types of internal illumination will be added for project signs.
