Shelby County to receive recognition for Collierville police partnership

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be formally recognized at the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Sept. 14 for the transfer of two command trucks to the Collierville Police Department.

“We are pleased with the partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and Collierville Police,” said Mayor Stan Joyner. “Shelby County is contributing to the success of our police department’s ability to serve our community.”

The County vehicles were removed from service and approved by Sheriff Floyd Bonner to be transferred to the Collierville Police Department in May of 2020. County Commissioner Amber Mills sponsored the transfer resolution along with co-sponsors Chairman Mark Billingsley and Commissioner David Bradford.

In July, the County Commission unanimously approved the transfer and the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved to receive the trucks.

Upgrades began immediately as the Collierville Police Department invested new equipment for mobile dispatching and emergency response, as well as new stripe packages to the outside of the vehicles. The trucks will be used for Collierville Police as a command center during major events and critical incidents.

“I am appreciative for Sheriff Bonner and his team for the gift and look forward to formally thanking them,” said Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane. “Their efforts make CPD better prepared to protect and serve the citizens of Collierville.”

The Police Department will have the trucks at Monday night’s board meeting as part of the presentation. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm, Monday, September 14 at Collierville Town Hall, 500 Poplar View Parkway.
