School athletic facilities to remain closed during spring sports

The athletic facilities at all Collierville schools will remain closed “until further notice” and could be closed for fall sports like football, cross country and soccer.

Jeff Curtis, director of athletics, made the announcement earlier this week.

“We have a severe and rapidly changing issue that is affecting everyone worldwide,” Curtis said regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our focus continues to be on the health and safety of everyone associated with Collierville Schools.

“We cannot stress enough that everyone should follow the guidelines from local and national health experts,” he added. “There are many unknowns related to the impact on athletics, including spring sports at the high school level and potential fall sports. Those details and many other issues are actively being worked out.

“This is bigger than sports,” he concluded. “We all can play a critical role in helping defeat the virus as quickly as possible.”

Curtis encouraged students to “stay strong, safe and positive.”

“We look forward to seeing everyone soon when practices and competitions resume.”
