Ramsey Peyton “Mickey” Locke, Jr.

Ramsey Peyton “Mickey” Locke, Jr., passed away September 3, 2022. Mr. Locke was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II. He served as a field artillery corporal in the European Theater for 18 months, where he received two battle stars. He installed phone lines through France, ending up in Salzburg, Austria. After the war ended, he continued to stay in Austria and help set up camps for displaced people. He later spent several years in the Air Force Reserves and was called back to active duty for 2 years during the Korean War. Upon his return home he went to work for the Ford dealership and eventually ended up owning his own Auto Body Repair Shop which closed in 2006. During his life he remained very active in Veterans Affairs, serving as Tennessee State VFW Commander, which was his lifelong dream; Collierville VFW Post Commander for over 30 years, chairman of Veterans Homes in Munford and Humboldt and chairman of West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Locke spearheaded funding for the Veterans Memorial- Collierville Town Square; he received the Collierville Home Town Hero Award; was Grand Marshall of the Collierville Christmas Parade and had Mickey Locke Day proclaimed in Collierville by Mayor Cox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramsey Peyton Locke, Sr. and Ludie Richardson Locke; his wife and love of his life, Betty Ann Locke, and two sisters, Dorothy Milliorn and Anne Dean.

He is survived by daughter, Barbara Hampton (Henry); sons, Terry Locke (Mary) and Kenny Locke; grandchildren, Stephanie Locke, David Locke, Billy Hampton (Krissie), Jamie Hall (Jason) and Kenny Locke (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Michaela Nance (Drew), Zoe Swindler, Lex Hampton, Samuel Hampton, Jaden Hall, Jaxon Hall, and Jillian Hall; and two brothers, Roy Locke (Becky) and Richard Locke (Jeannie Ruth).

The family received friends on Thursday September 8, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m.; all in the chapel of Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W Poplar Avenue, Collierville.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Locke may be offered to Victoria United Methodist Church, 5746 MS-178 W, Victoria, Mississippi 38679 or to VFW Post 5066, 347 S Center St., Collierville, Tennessee 38017.
