Collierville residents won’t be able to attend next week’s meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in person.
However, they will not be excluded from the town’s business proceedings. The town will continue to stream its meetings on Collierville.com.
The most recent agenda issued by the town states, “In an effort to protect public health, safety, and welfare and prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Collierville has temporarily closed in-person access to its public meetings.
However, the public may continue to access the public meetings electronically at https://collierville.com/government/live-and-archived-meetings.”
The April 13 meeting will include a discussion on a $21,000 budget amendment to appropriate funds for an assessment project of the Eastbrook Greenbelt Trail and the banks of the Wolf River between Cox Park and Firehouse No. 3.
During the installation of a retaining wall on Eastbrook, just north of Homeplace, the town recognized that other lateral bank sections along the trail will require future work.
In an effort to carry out its governance and operational responsibilities lawfully, and effectively, while also considering the protection of public health, safety and welfare, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and other public meetings electronically.
These actions were taken in response to Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order 16 which suspended the requirements of the Tennessee Open Meetings Act to the extent necessary to allow governing bodies subject to the act to meet and conduct essential business by electronic means.
The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen has determined that meeting electronically is necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Further, notice of such electronic meetings has been, and will continue to be, published in the same manner as is currently used for regular meetings.
These measures are temporary, and are due to expire on May 18, unless further action is taken by Governor Lee.
