Positive COVID-19 cases interrupt in-person learning at Collierville Middle

The identification of a handful of positive cases of the COVID-19 virus has forced Collierville Middle School to temporarily abandon in-person learning until Nov. 30.
School officials made the announcement on Sunday.
“Collierville Middle School is experiencing an increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases with five active cases and a large number of quarantined staff and students,” a release from Collierville Schools stated. “The safety, security and well being of our school community is our top priority as we continue to respond to the virus.
Collierville Middle in-person learning temporarily transitioned to remote learning on Nov. 16. Students will return to in-person learning on Nov. 30, following the Thanksgiving intersession.
The statement indicates that Collierville Middle CVA learning and functions will continue as normal.
The transition to the remote learning model only impacts Collierville Middle.
Transitional Items to Consider for Remote Learners (In-person School Community):
• Collierville Middle School physical operations will be closed to the public from Nov. 16-29
• Deep cleaning of the school campus will be implemented.
• All in-person students will work and learn remotely from home from Nov. 16-20

• The Thanksgiving intersession is from Nov. 23-27
• In-person teachers (who are now remote) will facilitate class via TEAMS following the bell schedule
•. Students are required to attend all scheduled classes remotely (this is not optional)
• Students will connect through TEAMS each period to meet with the course teacher
• To be counted present for attendance purposes, students will join their class at the scheduled time and remain in the class until dismissed by the teacher.
• Bell Schedule – 1st Period 8:30 a.m., 2nd Period 9:30 a.m., 3rd Period 10:30 a.m., 4th Period 11:30 a.m., 5th Period 1 p.m., and 6th Period 2 p.m.
• All In-person extra-curricular activities are canceled (sports, clubs, etc.) and will resume on Nov. 30
• Those who need IT/digital platform assistance can contact the IT Helpdesk at 901.910.1606
• Those with specific COVID-19 health related questions can contact the Shelby County Health Department at 901.222.6275.

• Nutritional services will continue for Collierville Middle School (pick up location at Collierville High
School)
