New vaccination distribution schedule announced

The City of Memphis is now operating public COVID-19 vaccination sites, Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Appointment sign-up links will now be released on Fridays at noon for appointments for the following week.

Memphis assumed control of vaccination efforts at the state’s request last week after the Shelby County Health Department was deemed a “low accountability organization” by Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey.

Piercey indicated that the county’s health department was under investigation due to alleged vaccination thefts from the Pipkin Building earlier this month.

The FBI has been contacted about the matter.Piercey also said that she had been notified that two children were vaccinated at the Appling Road site.

The vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) are not yet authorized for use in children. Alisa Haushalter, head of the Shelby County Health Department, resigned from her position on Friday.

City officials said that individuals with existing appointments should still show up at their scheduled times.

There is no need to reschedule an appointment.

Only citizens who meet the eligibility criteria will be vaccinated, and appointments are required. Citizens should not arrive more than an hour before the scheduled appointment time and bring proof of appointment.

Individuals without appointments, even if they are within an eligible group, are prohibited to come to the vaccination site without an appointment.

If you do not have an appointment, you will be turned away.
