Longtime volunteer makes large donation to animal shelter
A longtime volunteer and advocate for the Collierville Animal Shelter has donated $30,000 to the group.
The town unanimously accepted the donation from JoAnne Cobb last week during the meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Greg Clark, director of the town’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services, called Cobb a “tremendous asset and huge advocate” for the town’s animal shelter.
Cobb is donating the money for the purpose of purchasing a new truck for the shelter that will be used for animal control calls and transporting animals to medical appointments.
“We feel like the (funds) will be enough to purchase the truck and accessories such as emergency lights, bed liner, animal transport kennels and a livestock transport trailer,” Clark said.
The board will have to approve the truck once the town’s Procurement Department selects a viable vehicle. Donning a mask but clearly smiling, Cobb briefly addressed the board.
“It’s a pleasure to volunteer,” she said. “I’ve had a lot of rewarding experiences there.”
