The Yellow Rose Junior Cotillion has opened the application process for local parents wishing to enroll children in fifth through eighth grade into the 2015 class.
Ten girls and 10 boys will be selected.
Designed by the National School of Etiquette and Protocol, The Yellow Rose Junior Cotillion prepares Mid-South boys and girls for “meaningful personal, social and academic growth through an authentic, credentialed curriculum.”
All classes are taught by nationally certified etiquette practitioners and choreographers.
“In today’s hyper-competitive world, children who are able to handle social situations with poise have a built-in advantage that will serve them well, now and later as adults in the work world,” said Felicia Layeni, managing partner.
Layeni brings the Yellow Rose Junior Cotillion to the area eight years after establishing her finishing school in Dallas.
“Regardless of where I live, this is always home. I’ve lived for the day when I could bring this valuable offering to children in my hometown,” she said.
Ideal applicants possess high leadership potential, are goal-oriented and maintain successful academic records while displaying a strong history of voluntarism.
Amidst fresh flowers, fine china and crystal in an elegant setting, students learn the rules of 21st century social grace and leadership that last a lifetime.
The 2015-16 season begins in October and runs throughout March, with a formal presentation in April.
During the season, members participate in interactive workshops, special events and a service project.
Focus areas include social etiquette, personal protocol, leadership development, voluntarism, personal responsibility and philanthropy.
Highlights include the annual Yellow Rose Christmas Tea, an evening at the Symphony, and a fine dining excursion.
The Yellow Rose Ball at the Peabody Grand Hotel marks the end of a successful season.
