Less than a week left in early voting

More than 6,000 Shelby County residents have already cast their ballots in the presidential preference primary and in the county primary for general sessions court clerk as of Saturday afternoon.

Feb. 15 was the most recent date for which voting statistics were available at press time.

Feb. 25 is the last day for early voting and for an absentee ballot request.

Election Day will be March 3.

Past election’s voter participation

In the March 2016 presidential preference primary and county primary, 27.9 percent of Shelby County’s 548,686 registered voters cast a ballot.

Of those, 69,774 were Republicans, and 83,328 were Democrats.

For the August 2016 county general and state/federal primary, only 15% of registered voters participated.

But in the November 2016 general (presidential) election, 60.2% of Shelby County’s registered voters participated – 341,731 out of 567,545.
