Leonard Andrew Groom, Jr.

1932 – 2021

Leonard Andrew Groom, Jr., of Collierville, Tennessee, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, November 15, 2021. He was born April 10, 1932, to Leonard and Mae Groom of Huntingdon, Tennessee.

Leonard graduated from Huntingdon High in May 1950, attended Business College and then served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict, with Honorable Discharge in 1954. Leonard was employed as a Supervisor for MATA for 36 years until his retirement. He was ordained as a deacon at Park Avenue Baptist Church and continued to serve in that capacity at Ridgeway Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church in Collierville.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Jimmy Groom, and his beloved first granddaughter Rhonda. He is survived by his wife Opal Joyce Kennon Groom, his daughters Valdia McAdoo Tribble of White House, Tennessee, Cynthia Kay Ott of Collierville, Phyllis Ann Groom Armstrong (Tommy) of Collierville, his son Phillip Andrew Kennon Groom (Katherine) of Bartlett, and his younger sister Evelyn Turner of Jackson, Tennessee. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
