Since the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd on Memorial Day while in police custody, the nation has been rocked by protest, some rioting and even looting.
However, for the past few days, more peaceful demonstrations, like the ones that took place in Collierville over the weekend, have dominated the narrative.
Groups like the Coalition of People spent Saturday peacefully educating the community at Johnson Park.
The theme of the day was “So, what’s next?” as rally leaders like Antonio Sims condemned acts of racism and racial violence.
Equipped with cardboard signs, other groups congregated in front of Booya’s on W. Poplar Ave.
On Sunday, residents marched and met on the Historic Town Square to show support for the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
