Jobless rate up in June, still below U.S. average | Collierville Independent

Collierville’s jobless rate remained below the national average last month despite a slight increase compared to May.

According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the town’s June rate of 5.2 percent was fourth tenths of a percentage point higher than May. However, it was lower than June of 2014 and one tenth of a percentage point lower than the national average of 5.3 percent.

Germantown’s rate of 5 percent was the lowest in Shelby County cities with a population over 25,000. The unemployment rate in Memphis was 7.9 percent, up from 7.3 percent in May. Bartlett’s rate was 5.9 percent and also up.

Shelby County’s rate was up six tenths of a percent point at 7.3 percent.

Collierville’s labor force is comprised of 24,160 residents, 1,240 of whom were unemployed last month.
