I’m not going to lie, I am a little apprehensive about our two children heading back to school next month.
Yes, this is partially because of the seemingly never-ending virus that has shocked our globe. However, it is also because I think our seventh-grader and first-grader are in for a thunderbolt of expectations.
I know the teachers will be patient and prepared.
But how can you transition a hyperactive 6-year-old from virtual learning – in kindergarten no less – to in-class learning as a first grader?
I personally don’t know.
It seems impossible for those of us who aren’t gifted educators.
Like many of us, I’m not wired to be an educator. I’m kind of a “can’t you just watch me and figure it out” kind of person.
That is not oftentimes helpful.
Natural born educators teach individuals in myriad ways. What works for one young mind won’t translate to another.
That is hard for me to wrap my mind around.
So, thank goodness for the wonderful teachers and administrators in Collierville and Germantown who are skilled and compassionate enough to do these jobs.
I think many of us “non-educators” took these brilliant workers for granted from time-to-time.
No longer will that be the case, at least for our family.
So, help where you can parents. These educators are shaping the future of our world and they have quite the task in front of them.
