Happening next month: Epiphany Lutheran celebrates Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association’s 50th anniversary

Epiphany Lutheran Church is proud to partner with the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA) and St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Collierville to celebrate MIFA’s landmark 50th anniversary this year.

As part of this celebration, MIFA will hold CommUNITY Days throughout Shelby County during five days in September, when people of all faiths and backgrounds from more than 60 faith groups across Shelby County will gather to partner on shared projects to benefit and unite the community through service. More than 25 projects to benefit Memphis-area communities will take place during the five-day period.

On MIFA’s 50th birthday, September 15, a very special CommUNITY Day will take place at the Epiphany Community Garden (located at the corner of Wolf River Boulevard and Bray Station Road in Collierville). Volunteers from MIFA, Epiphany and St. Andrews will gather together at 8:30 a.m. for a morning of work in the garden, which provides fresh produce weekly to the Collierville Food Pantry as well as other area feeding ministries.

Pastor Monica Weber from Epiphany Lutheran Church will open with a prayer, followed by a brief tour of the garden. Volunteers will then split into teams to work in the garden, including activities such as harvesting fresh vegetables, weeding and watering, and planting new crops for the fall. Attendees will also have the opportunity build a mason bee house to take home, along with instructions on where to place the bee house in their own yard or garden for best results.

This family-friendly event is open to the public and will take place from 8:30-11:30 a.m. During the event, Epiphany will provide bottled water and snacks to all volunteers. As part of the MIFA 50th anniversary celebration, there will also be birthday cake! Participants will also receive a free MIFA50 T-shirt as thanks for their assistance.

Epiphany Lutheran Church worships every Sunday at 10 a.m. in Schaeffer Memorial Chapel on the campus of Kingsway Christian Church, 7887 Poplar Ave. in Germantown (right next to Whole Foods). Epiphany’s Community Garden, tended by volunteers, has been in operation for seven years, providing almost 2,000 pounds of produce in 2017 to the Collierville Food Pantry and other local feeding ministries.
