Frank C. Ferrel

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that U.S. Army Air Forces Tech Sgt. Frank C. Ferrel, 31, of Roby, Texas, killed during World War II, was accounted for Jan. 10, 2023. 

Funeral Honors will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater, Texas with Rev. Jeff Sedberry officiating. 

Military Honors and interment will follow at Newman Cemetery, south of Sylvester, Texas, performed by the United States Army Honor Guard. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

T/Sgt. Ferrel was born February 12, 1912 to George Washington and Clara Jane (Cross) Ferrel. He married Julia Maurese Putnan June 3, 1941 at Plains, Texas shortly before his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Force. Frank was a 1929 graduate of Sylvester High School and received his B.S. Degree in 1936 from McMurray at Abilene, Texas where he was an accomplished basketball player winning All-Conference Honors. He was a Teacher, Coach and Principal at Goodman, Lueders and Plains High Schools.

Among survivors are his nephew; Simon Terrazas and wife Mary of Big Spring, Texas and niece; Mary Alice Royko and husband Jim of Collierville, Tennessee, deceased niece; (September 11, 2019) Claudean “Dean” Terrazas Cone and her children; Christine and Michael Midford and Stephen and Nancy Cone and cousin; Zenita Gardner and husband Leon of Sylvester, Texas.
